Statement

People – their faces, their gestures, their connection to their surroundings – are endlessly fascinating to me. My pastel portraits and figure sketches aim to capture something essential about a subject – the individual’s personality, attitude, or je ne sais quoi.  As a pastellist, I’m inspired by color, whether nuanced or dramatic. As a portraitist, I’m attracted to beautiful or distinctive faces: when I see them, I instinctively want to draw them. When COVID hit, and the weekly portrait class I’d been attending for years was cancelled, I needed another way to exercise my “art muscle”… and I found the New Orleans Drawing Group Via Zoom. It still amazes me that I can live in Hawaii and draw models located around the country and across the globe, while participating in a wonderful community of far-flung artists. I’m beyond grateful for the artistic opportunities that NODG has provided for my continued artistic growth.
