Statement
At the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown, I, like many other artists who draw the human figure from life, suddenly lost my access to open studios in Chicago. How would I have survived, much less thrived, that year without the hard work of founder Sandra Burshell in moving her New Orleans Drawing Group to Zoom, and her generosity in opening the site to all? As 2020, 2021, 2022, and now 2023 slip by, Thursday evenings remain the still point in my turning universe. Many thanks too to co-hosts Darlene Bigus-Doheny, Amber Rousse, and Leon Hinson; to the many fellow pastel and other artists with whom I look forward to painting every week; and to the rotating group of creative and inspiring models who round out the Family – with a special shout-out to Christopher Ryan for organizing this celebratory physical and online exhibition!
